Looking for some outdoor activities for you and your dog to enjoy the spring weather in Leesburg? Check out these local parks!
Mapping out pack hikes using the AllTrails app has allowed me to explore some awesome trails and parks! Here's a list of some of my favorites!
- Ida Lee Park: Ida Lee offers more than just fitness classes, play grounds, tennis courts, and swimming pools. There is ample green space, paved paths, and grass covered trails. It is heavily trafficked, so if you're looking for a quiet spot to play or hike with your dog, this may not be the best option for you. Ida Lee offers a dog swim in the late summer just before they close the pool for the season.
- Balls Bluff Regional Park: This park is full of local history and countless trails! This park is one of my favorites. While I do encounter others on the trails, it's a huge park so I don't run into others as frequently as I do at Ida Lee. You can expect it to be a bit muddy for a few days following a rain storm. They offer guided historical tours on weekends.
- Freedom Park: This park is primarily used as a sports complex, but the paved paths make it great for a quick walk after work. Dogs are not permitted during sporting events, so make sure to check their game schedule before you head over.
- Morven Park: This park is huge! Situated on 1000 acres, there are several trails to choose from. There are paved paths, rocky trails, and grass covered trails. The property also a garden and horse stables. There are so many different ways to enjoy the property and I encourage you to give it a try.
- Two Creeks Trail: Just off the W&OD trail, the Two Creeks Trail is a hidden gem! There's a beautiful creek along the trail. The negative? It gets muddy.
- Potomac Heritage Trail: This trail runs parallel to the Potomac and a golf course. When entering, it's a little confusing because you have to walk through the golf course to get to the beginning of the trail. The trail itself is narrow and not very private, you can see the golf course for most of the walk.
- Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve: I hate to even advertise Banshee Reeks because it is my favorite spot. There are so many trails! I rarely run into others while I'm out on the trails, no matter how crowded it is. The grounds are full of wildlife. You can walk parallel to the river, stumble upon a pond, or enjoy the lush trails. The trails are grass covered so be sure to check yourself and your pup for ticks after this hike!
- Freedom Center Trail: There's a $5 suggested donation to use the trail. The trails are a little hard to follow but it is a beautiful walk!
All parks and trails require dogs to be kept on a leash by law.
